LaGrange 24 Troup 20
By Michael Buchanan 11/10/07
As a fan of the sport, this had to have been one of the most frustratingly entertaining games I have ever seen. As a Granger fan and supporter, this game turned out pretty darn fun. LaGrange defeated the Troup Tigers 24-20 at Callaway Stadium in a game that didn't have much ebb and flow to it. It was ebb and stop by penalty, or flow and stop by turnover. But it was not boring.

Troup and LaGrange exchanged punts to open the game. The first turning point came with 3:24 left in the first quarter as Roland Rice intercepted a Jaquante Holloway pass to the Troup 20. LaGrange had to settle for a 23 yard field goal by Pat Simmons to go ahead 3-0. Troup would then put together an 11 play drive, but had to punt the ball away. LaGrange then went 73 yards on four plays capped off by a 39 yard touchdown run by Dez Lovett. 10-0 LaGrange and the game seemed well in hand. Troup would punt the ball away again, but on the Grangers' first snap Troup would receiver the fumble and run it in for a touchdown. The Tigers were back in business down 10-7. LaGrange would punt the ball away, but Troup ended the first half when Brian Dowell intercepted a Holloway pass. The half would end 10-7 Grangers.

LaGrange would take command of the first drive of the second half going 64 yards on three plays, ending with a 33 yard touchdown run by Dez Lovett. 17-7 LaGrange. But Troup would not go away. A 95 yard drive on 10 plays ended when Lawrence Jackson caught a Holloway pass for 51 yards and a touchdown. The extra point was missed and it was 17-13 LG. The teams exchanged punts again, but LaGrange bobbled the punt and Troup recovered at the Granger 35 yard line. Four plays later, Brandon Worle would run in from 26 yards out giving Troup their first and only lead of the game, 20-17. But the Grangers would answer, going 76 yards on five plays. The touchdown was set up nicely by a 30 yard 4th down run by Ocie Salter giving LaGrange a new set of downs. They would only need one as Gunsby, from the shotgun, flipped the ball to Rodney Tolbert on a reverse, but Tolbert then threw the ball to a wide open John Jackson in the end zone making the score 24-20 Grangers. The teams exchanged punts again and Troup's final drive ended just as their 1st half ended, with a Brian Dowell interception.

LaGrange improves to 8-2 and travels to Perry Friday for the first round of the playoffs. Troup falls to 6-4 and their consecutive streak of seven playoff appearances ends.
