LaGrange 55 Spencer 6

The Grangers dominated Spencer at the AJ McClung Memorial Stadium in Columbus Thursday 55-6. Spencer was only able to muster three first downs, one on their first drive and two on their second to last. By my unofficial count, LaGrange's defense held the Greenwave to 46 total yards.

Spencer went three snaps for -2 yards, but on the punt attempt the Grangers was in the face of the punter, who scrambled left and ran 23 yards for a first down. The Greenwave then went three and out punting the ball away. LaGrange started their first drive at their own 47. Five plays later, Darren Hairston ran 11 yards for his first of three touchdowns to give LaGrange a 7-0 lead. Spencer went three and out, but the punter fumbled in the end zone and David Earl recovered. Pat Simmon's kick was good and the score went to 14-0. After another Spencer three and out, LaGrange did not get a first down on their next drive. They didn't need to. A four play 22-yard drive ended with a 14-yard scamper by Hairston into the end zone and the score was 21-0. Spencer ended the first quarter punting without a first down.

The second quarter saw LaGrange go 51 yards on five plays, the final one with Jamius Gunsby running four yards for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was bobbled and Rodney Tolbert tried to throw it in the end zone, but the conversion failed. 27-0. On Spencer's first play from their own 18, the Grangers caused a fumble and the good guys set up shop on Spencer's 15. Five plays later, Hairston gets his third and final touchdown of the night and the Grangers are up 34-0. Spencer goes three and out for the fourth time and LaGrange goes 53 yards on three plays. Dez Lovett gets into the scoring action from 11 yards out. 41-0. Spencer didn't get the opportunity to punt because on third down Qua Huzzie intercepted a pass and brought the ball to Spencer's 16 yard line. Five plays later a five yard TD run by Ocie Salter and LaGrange took a 48-0 lead into the locker room.

The Grangers took the opening kickoff of the second half to their own 44 yard line. They went 56 yards on seven plays, capped off by a six yard scoring run by Joe Reid. 55-0 LaGrange. The two teams exchanged punts and Spencer started the next drive on their own 27. A screen pass against the Granger scout team gave Spencer their second first down of the game. Two plays after that saw a 47 yard pass play to the Granger 5. On first and goal, Spencer converts on a pass play in the end zone, ending the Grangers' shutout streak at 23 quarters. 55-6 is how the game would end.

The Grangers go to 6-0 on the season and next host the Shaw Raiders next Friday.
