LaGrange 16 Shaw 25

No one makes defensive halftime adjustments like Donnie Branch. Shaw had thirteen first downs in the first half, but only four in the second half. And three of those were on the Raiders' final drive.
But Shaw's offense dug a first half hole that was too deep for the Grangers to pull out from in the second half. Shaw led 25-7 at intermission, LaGrange outscored Shaw 9-0 the rest of the way. But it was not enough.

The Grangers' opening drive went 67 yards on four plays and was almost stalled when Brian Dowell fumbled at the ten. But Dez Lovett grabbed the bouncing ball and ran it in for a touchdown. 7-0 LG. The teams exchanged punts and Shaw set up at their own one yard line. But 11 plays and there first downs later, Bryan Willis scores from 32 yards out capping off a 99 yard touchdown drive. 7-7. LaGrange would go three and out and Shaw scored on a four play, 36 yard drive after a 35 yard touchdown pass from Cam Greathouse. A two point conversion after a penalty made the score 15-7 Shaw. The Grangers would punt again without moving the chains but Ryan Allen intercepted a pass and LaGrange would start their next drive at the Raider 31. That drive stalled and a 46 yard field goal attempt would go wide left. On the second play of the Raiders' next drive, Willis would run 63 yards into the end zone and Shaw extends their lead to 22-0.  LaGrange would punt again and Shaw ended their final first half drive with a 29 yard field goal. 25-7 at the half.

It was a totally different second half as Shaw punted every time they had the ball. Shaw, then LaGrange, then Shaw again punted the ball away, but LaGrange then would go 53 yards on their second drive. They stalled at Shaw's 18 and Pat Simmons hit a 35 yard field goal. 25-10.
After a Shaw punt, LaGrange had a five play drive going 63 yards, ending when Jamius Gunsby ran in a 17 yard touchdown. The two point conversion failed and it became 25-16. Shaw's offense then did some clock killing. An 11 play, 42 yard drive ended with a punt, but it took nearly six minutes off the clock. LaGrange would get the ball one more time with 2:31 left in the game. The Grangers would not get a first down and the game ended 25-16 Shaw.

LaGrange falls to 6-1 and Shaw improves to 7-1. The Grangers next travel to Memorial Stadium Saturday to face the undefeated Carver Tigers. Airtime on WTRP-AM 620 is 6:30 ET.
